The founding of Lohas Lifelong Learning Academy

Since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020, the Women's Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Taiwan has been deeply concerned about the physical and mental health issues of middle-aged and elderly women. After careful preparation with scholars, experts, and the board of directors, the "Lohas Lifelong Learning Academy" courses officially began in October. With high-quality instructors and well-designed courses, the academy holds sessions twice a year, covering a wide range of topics including promoting the physical and mental health of elderly women, interpersonal relationships, long-term care issues, health maintenance and healthcare, 3C technology usage, outdoor hiking, horticultural therapy, and various creative handicrafts, among other diverse and exciting courses and activities.

"Lohas Handicraft Workshop" promotes the micro-economy of middle-aged and elderly women.

Lohas Handicraft Workshop was established to provide various handicraft courses and workshops from experienced instructors for middle-aged and elderly women, not only do they showcase their creativity and fine arts to produce aesthetically pleasing and functional products, but also can increase their income, thereby empowering their micro-economic capacity! One of the most popular handmade products is the Lohas Handmade Soap! 

Sweet and Tasty Lohas Lifelong Handmade Soap

The academy's director, along with the team of instructors and the secretariat, have actively recruited workshop members and initiated three sessions of handmade soap teaching and practical activities.

Under the guidance of skilled instructors, our senior sisters have shown remarkable talent! They have made the soaps into various shapes such as donuts, tangerines, and standard rectangular shapes, packaged luxuriously and beautifully, making them perfect for gifting. Although making donut-shaped handmade soaps requires effort, everyone has demonstrated patience and creativity, producing beautifully crafted and delicious-looking donut-shaped handmade soaps. 

While learning, they also share the joy of creating, experiencing the fun of crafting. As they admire their unique handmade soaps, our senior sisters feel a sense of confidence and accomplishment. Especially knowing that their efforts contribute to fundraising for charitable organizations and support the micro-economy of elderly women, everyone is willing to invest their time and effort wholeheartedly.

The Joy and Confidence of Our Lohas Handicraft Workshop Members

The efforts of senior workshop members in crafting delicate soaps had truly paid off! Since completing our first batch of handmade soap for the Mid-Autumn Festival in October 2023, the Lohas Handicraft Workshop had received the invitation from the Department of Social Welfare, Taipei City Government to sell our handmade soaps in a “Women Market” in November. Additionally, we were invited to exhibit at Women Entrepreneurs Association of Taiwan (中華飛雁創業互助協會), showcasing handmade products created by middle-aged and elderly women through our workshops and selling them at the booth. The initial experience made the team members feel a sense of accomplishment and received encouragement and recognition from the public. Later in late November, our team once again demonstrated their talent by handcrafting stunning and irresistible gemstone soaps at a book launch event for the esteemed female author, Celine Chou. These valuable exhibitions and fundraising activities have raised the confidence of middle-aged and elderly women.

Through the Lohas Handicraft Workshop, these members have gained new skills and continue to learn and grow despite their age and capabilities. Handcrafting soaps together fosters a sense of responsibility and togetherness, allowing them to share their daily lives and experiences together, motivating and inspiring one another. They truly enjoy the handmade process and find it healing and joyful.
